"Campers See Live Science in Action at Winter Science Camp..."

Winter Science Camp

"Cool!...Amazing!...I can't believe it!" In case you're wondering, this is what Winter Science Camp at The Discovery Center sounds like. Instead of long, boring days watching TV, this year's campers spent their Winter break watching live science experiments and exploring the Center's vast park grounds.

On the last day of Winter Science Camp, Mr. Tim hosted a very special magic show. Using live demonstrations, he taught winter campers all about electricity, the physical and chemical properties of water and much more.

Joshua, 7
"My favorite part was when Mr. Tim shocked the 'birds' showing us about electricity," said Joshua, 7. Mr. Tim created a mini re-creation of power lines and used paper "birds" in his experiment. He shows the group what electricity can do and why birds can stay perched atop live power lines.

Before the magic show, Joshua spent time at his favorite Discovery Center attractions. "Oh, we did everything," he said. "I even got to play inside the spaceship." Joshua also made some discoveries at the Dino Dig Site, and said he was glad his mom signed him up for camp.

Isaiah, 11
Some of the other campers were most excited to interact with The Discovery Center attractions. "We actually got to play inside the Indian teepees," said fellow camper Isaiah. "We went in the maze, went fishing, and even went worm digging." Isaiah hoped other kids would come visit the Center to take part in all the fun he was having.

Jayden, 9
Among the sea of smiles at Winter Camp were cousins Jayden and Kadrea. They were brought to camp by their teacher, and shared the same, favorite spot at the Center. "We must have gone through the maze a hundred times," said Jayden. "Yeah, we played cops and robbers and had to cuff the bad guys," said Kadrea.

Kadrea, 9
The girls took a break from exploring to talk about why other kids should come to camp. Both campers talked about the Center's ability to make all the games and activities at camp fun and educational. "I really like camp, because we learn new things and it teaches us about nature and survival," said Jayden. Kadrea definitely agreed: "Camp is so fun, but at the same time you get to learn. Sometimes you don't even know it!"
